If this sounds like your vacation check list, I have just discovered your next vacation destination: Ambergris Cay in Turks and Caicos. This favorite island country is made of 40 different coral islands, and Ambergris Cay is South East of the main island of Providenciales (Home of the famous Grace Bay Beach). This private island is just 4 miles long and 1 mile wide, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean AND the Caribbean sea. This means you have stretches of pristine beach untouched by most (Although famous pirate Calico Jack inhabited the island in the late 17th century, ruins are still there and can be visited during your stay!)

The 10 Beachfront Pool Suites facing the Caribbean Sea

Originally established as a community for private homeowners, Ambergris Cay opened as a private island resort in 2019. Today there is still a mixture of private homes and resort villas and suite. All tolled, there are 10 suites and 7 villas for rent on an all-inclusive basis. and this number continues to grow as villa owners add their properties to the rental pool as well as the resort building new villas. Travelers seeking a secluded luxury escape can enjoy access to over 1,100-acres of mostly untouched land, ready to be explored by a select few. When you come to Ambergris Cay, you aren’t getting a resort, you are getting a whole island experience.

Ambergris Cay is easily accessible: it has the largest stretch of runway in the country and an international airport. This means you can fly in a private jet direct to the resort and be in your villa in minutes, or fly to Providenciales where you will take a 5 minute drive to a private airport and whisked away in the resort’s plane (transport from PLS is included in your stay). This enjoyable flight takes about 20 mins total.

Our arrival in paradise

Once you arrive you will be met by your personal host, who will take care of all your needs during your stay. Each accommodation comes with golf carts for transporting around the island. You can choose from one of the 3-6 Bedroom Villas, all with at least one pool, and incredible views. Most of the villas are on the Atlantic side of the island and the beaches here are surf beaches. The 1 Bedroom pool suites are on the Caribbean side, which offers gorgeous beach with calm waters. These suites are soon to be an adult-only area of the resort. All accommodations are very private and serene and offer their own stretches of beach. If you choose to walk down the beach you are most likely to find a hidden and private nook, with lounge chairs and umbrella. Just send your host a text and they will find you with your favorite beverage and something to eat!

The all-inclusive dining allows you to relax and avoid the hassle of signing bills after each meal. The 5* cuisine is carefully prepared by Chef Sebastian Palmer (Formerly of Amanyara), who takes the time to get to know each guest’s dining preferences. The menu changes daily and offers fresh and local choices for all kinds of tastes. The staff here is warm and welcoming and eager to please.

There is never a shortage of things to do on Ambergris Cay. You can do nothing (one of my preferences) or you can enjoy many activities such as hiking, boating, sailing, pickleball, tennis, basketball, swimming, paddle and more— most of these are included in your stay. There is also a spa with a great menu of treatments that will enhance your relaxation during your stay. A couple of times a week, you can take the resort’s motorboat to the floating bar, the “Hangover”, and enjoy a beach BBQ on Little Ambergris Cay. Honeymooners and Families alike will carve out their own unique and memorable experiences while staying here.

For people reticent to give up the main island and her wonderful restaurants and shops, I urge you to consider a “split stay” the next time you visit the country of Turks and Caicos. Try 3-4 nights on Ambergris, and then head to Provo for the rest of your time. I guarantee you may choose Ambergris for your entire stay next time you visit.
