My Greek Odyssey: Exploring Athens, Mykonos, Paros, and Santorini

Embarking on my journey to Greece was like stepping into a mythical world of ancient history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture. From Athens to Mykonos, Paros to Santorini, each destination had its own charm and allure. Join me as I take you through the highlights of my unforgettable adventure.

Athens - A Tapestry of History and Charm:

In Athens, I stayed at the iconic Grand Bretagne Hotel, a magnificent blend of luxury and history. From its vantage point, I could catch glimpses of the Acropolis, an ancient citadel that spoke volumes of the past. I ascended to its summit, marveling at the majestic Parthenon and soaking in the panoramic views of the city. Afterwards, I strolled through the charming Plaka neighborhood, with its narrow streets, cozy cafes, and traditional tavernas, immersing myself in the warm embrace of Greek hospitality.

I could share all the fine dining I experience, but my favorite meal here was spent at Hoocut, a wonderful place for delicious street food. Here we enjoyed the most delicious slovaki and fries. Who doesn’t love a good french fry?

Mykonos - A Playground of Sun, Sea, and Extravaganza:

My next stop was the vibrant island of Mykonos, where I indulged in contemporary luxury while honoring the island's rich cultural heritage. Our first stop upon arrival was Rizes, a folklore farmstead, which the owner, Nikos Zouganelis, built with his own hands. The mission here is to give visitors an authentic journey back in time, when life had few comforts but was simple and happy. We were treated to freshly baked bread, and an array of traditional foods. You also tour the Chorio, which is the residence that consists of independent buildings: one is the kitchen, one is the master bedroom, one is the bathroom, etc. This experience is not to be missed when visiting Mykonos.

Back to modern times, we arrived at our 5* hotel, the Mykonos Grand, an oasis of tranquility that offered the utmost comfort. This resort has it all, spacious rooms, incredible hospitality and food, and a beautiful private beach.

Mykonos is famous for its beach clubs, which serve as the beating heart of the island's lively atmosphere. But it’s not just for the partiers. Anyone who wants to enjoy this island can also find tranquil and quiet places, because Mykonos has it all!

Paros - A Quaint Haven of Serenity:

Leaving behind the vibrant Mykonos, I set sail for the idyllic island of Paros. This hidden gem enchanted me with its serene ambiance and unspoiled beauty. Paros, with its quaint villages, picturesque harbors, and golden beaches, provided the perfect escape to unwind and recharge. I found myself exploring the labyrinthine streets of Parikia and getting lost in the enchanting fishing village of Naoussa, where time seemed to stand still. Paros' tranquil landscapes offered a sense of serenity that was often elusive in bustling tourist destinations.

This is the perfect destination for those who want the charm of Mykonos but with a chiller vibe.

Here we stayed at the Parilo, a luxury Design Hotel. This boutique hotel boasts 33 suites, decorated with calming neutral tones, very typical of the Cycladic Islands. Your days in Paros can be spent poolside, shopping, or on the water in a boat. The perfect retreat!

Santorini - A Volcanic Paradise and Luxury Retreat:

My final destination was the legendary island of Santorini, a place of unparalleled beauty and mesmerizing sunsets. I had the privilege of staying at the boutique Secret Suites & Spa hotel, perched on the iconic Caldera cliffside. From my luxurious accommodation, I enjoyed breathtaking views of the azure Aegean Sea. The staff at Secret Suites go above and beyond in terms of service, and their restaurant Black Rock is not to be missed.

Staying on the Caldera required adhering to specific rules to preserve its delicate ecosystem, ensuring the preservation of this natural wonder for generations to come. It is good to note that children under age 13 are not permitted to stay in the hotels here, and with good reason!!A few steps from your room or villa, you can enjoy the busy streets of Oia. And busy they are, but worth the journey into the pretty shops and restaurants. Because the rooms in the Caldera are built into caves, you can’t hear the noise from town when you are in your room!

While the Caldera stole the spotlight, I ventured for two nights in Santorini's picturesque port of Ammoudi, a 10 min walk to Oia. Here I was the guest of the newly opened Canaves Epitome. The Canaves brand has 6 properties in Santorini, 5 are in Oia and this is their first venture outside the Caldera. These award winning hotels set the standard for luxury in every way, the Epitome is no exception. With beautiful views, exceptional dining, and world class accommodations, this hotel is perfect for Families and couples alike.

Conclusion:

My journey through Athens, Mykonos, Paros, and Santorini unveiled the diverse tapestry of Greece's beauty, history, and charm. From the majestic Acropolis and the captivating Plaka in Athens to the vibrant beach clubs of Mykonos, the quaint serenity of Paros, and the volcanic allure of Santorini, each destination provided a unique experience. Whether I sought ancient wonders, beachside revelry, tranquility, or luxury, Greece proved to be a treasure trove of unforgettable moments that will forever remain etched in my heart.
